9/5/2023 – Share Your Thoughts About the West Hills Road Corridor Plan
[Update from the 11/14 West Hills Road Corridor Open House below]
- A new option was proposed that included both pedestrian and cyclist facilities that are separate from each other and the roadway.
[Update from the 9/7 City Council and County Commissioner work session below]
- There was strong community support for the design which has a bike/walking path separated from the roadway, and the city will propose a third option that separate pedestrians and cyclists at a future date.
- The proposed roundabout at the intersection of West Hills and Western is generally agreeable to all and still under consideration. Councilor Lytle noted that potential for two roundabouts in the South Corridor Plan and city staff noted the initial opposition to the County’s roundabout at 53rd which is now highly appreciated.
- The “tabletop” treatment on West Hills Road is still under consideration as well.
[Update from the 9/5 City Council meeting below]
- During the September 5th City Council meeting, the City Attorney stated that there are multiple places in the Municipal Code which make dumping leaves in the bike lanes illegal.
- The unfortunate news is that the City Council did not collectively take a stand and ask city staff to protect the bike lanes. (Learn more in the City Council Watch below.)
- If you find leaves piled in the bike lanes this fall, you can report the problem here. Please mention that separated bike facilities will do even more to protect cyclists.
